Since its inception, Neurotech Frontiers has been conceived as more than a single event. It is a national platform dedicated to advancing neurotechnology and inclusive innovation at the convergence of science, entrepreneurship, and societal impact. Anchored by the Frist Center for Autism & Innovation at Vanderbilt University, the initiative convenes researchers, founders, investors, clinicians, and advocates to translate advances in neuroscience and technology into meaningful outcomes for neurodiverse individuals and communities. With the inaugural 2025 summit now behind it and an additional 2026 gathering on the horizon, the platform is entering a new phase of growth and programmatic depth.

Reflecting on the Inaugural 2025 Summit

The first Neurotech Frontiers Summit took place from October 10 to 12, 2025, at Langford Auditorium on the campus of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Organized by the Frist Center for Autism & Innovation in partnership with the Janus Innovation Hub, the summit was built around the theme “Shaping the Future of Assistive & Inclusive Technology.” That theme guided program design, speaker selection, and the scope of conversations across all three days.

By the numbers, the inaugural edition established a strong foundation:

• ~150 attendees across three days
• 41 speakers across 12 keynote and spotlight sessions and 9 panel discussions
• 15 startups in the NeuroSpark Pitch Competition
• 19 startups in the Demo Zone

What made the summit distinctive was not only the breadth of its programming, but the character of the community it assembled. Researchers, clinicians, startup founders, investors, and neurodivergent advocates gathered under one roof to exchange ideas, challenge assumptions, and identify paths forward. The resulting environment was one in which academic inquiry and entrepreneurial application were treated as complementary rather than separate pursuits.

The outcomes extended well beyond the event itself. Participants reported new partnerships, investor engagement, and early-stage feedback that positioned several ventures for continued development. The summit also served as the launchpad for Round 2 of the Neurotech Frontiers Incubation Program, which attracted early interest from multiple teams even before a public announcement was made.

Extending the Platform: A Second Summit in 2026

Vanderbilt University serves as the permanent home of the flagship Neurotech Frontiers Summit, where the three-day gathering will continue to be held each year. Building on that foundation, the platform is expanding its reach in 2026 with an additional summit, hosted this time at San Diego State University on May 19, 2026.

This second gathering reflects the broader ambition behind Neurotech Frontiers as a national initiative. San Diego offers a distinct and complementary ecosystem of autism research, clinical innovation, and technology development. By convening a second event on the West Coast, the platform deepens its capacity to connect stakeholders across regions and institutions, reinforcing its position as a platform that belongs to the field rather than to any single geography.

Neurotech Frontiers Summit 2026: San Diego

The Neurotech Frontiers Summit 2026 will be held on May 19, 2026, at the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union at San Diego State University. The program brings the same commitment to substantive dialogue and cross-sector collaboration that defined the inaugural edition.

The day’s program includes keynote presentations, panel discussions, a startup pitch competition for early-stage ventures, and structured networking sessions.
